One final point: the strange 'innit?'-laden patois that chavs use amongst themselves is a slang derived from the argot of the polo field. For instance 'bird' is a reference to the way the polo shirt billows in the breeze, and thence to the shirt itself, and 'minger' (pronounced to rhyme with 'singer', not 'ginger' - ed) is a general expression of approval. Another amusing term is 'happy slap' which is the polo equivalent of a 'high five', albeit performed with polo sticks at full gallop. So, should you be confronted by a group of these youths, I recommend you open your conversation with 'Your bird's a minger, innit?' and then request a happy slap. If you do this then I am sure you will be assured of a warm welcome.
